Welcome

Argyra is an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle
(AUV) designed and developed by University of
West Florida undergraduate students.

Our goals as a UWF student organization are to push our knowledge of unmanned systems and systems engineering beyond our present curriculum and understanding. We are dedicated to helping UWF grow as a recognized university in technology. We also hope to raise awareness of new technologies and their applications to our community.

Presently, the main goal of our design is to meet the requirements to compete in the annual Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems Internation (AUVSI) Underwater Competition.

The Mission

The mission takes place at the TRANSDEC
Facility in San Diego California. The dimensional
constraint for any AUV competing are as follows.
The AUV must not exceed the 3’ x 3’ x 6’ and can
weigh no more than 110 lbs. It must at all times be
0.5% positive buoyant. The AUV is to be designed
to accomplish the following objectives (an asterisk
marks our goals for this year’s competition):

 · Launch from dock;*

 · Pass through the qualification gate
   maintaining a fixed heading;*

 · Track an orange pipeline;*

 · Locate and strike a moored red buoy;

 · Locate four black target bins with white
   border, identify a red card suit symbol, and
   drop two markers from sub into respective
   bins;

 · Navigate through a black PVC air duct with
   yellow strips inside and outside without
   hitting any of the sides;

 · Track and locate an acoustic pinger;*

 · Acquire an orange PVC “Safe” directly
   above the pinger; and,

 · Surface within an octagon floating directly
   above the pinger.

“The goals of this competition are to advance the state-of-the-art of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) by challenging a new generation of engineers to perform realistic missions in the underwater environment and to foster ties between young engineers and the organizations developing AUV technologies.“ – AUVSI
